Marry Your Marketing Plan

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Joy Gendusa Make a vow to keep up your marketing schedule in good times and not so good times. I have said it time and time again that marketing, no matter what type you choose, is a building process. Here is the whole thing summed up in one situation: Assume for a moment that you had never heard of this thing called “Cola”. You go to your mailbox and get your mail only to find a postcard that says “New Fizzy Drink! You’ll Love It! A Taste Like Nothing You Have Had Before!” You might run right out and try it, but more than likely, not. Most people won’t. So you get a second postcard. Still you do nothing. Then you are talking to youre a friend from across town who says “Hey, have you tried this Cola thing?” It turns out that after he got his second postcard he went out and got a bottle to give it a try. Now the Third postcard shows up and you’re thinking “OK, fine, I’ll give it a try.” And you do, and you do love it, and it is like nothing else. So now you have to tell your brother about it. You see where this is going. If the makers of “Cola”, whoever they are, had sent cards to the whole town one time and then abandoned the marketing due to a lack of response they would have missed out. So, now that you can no longer argue with the fact that you need to keep up a steady stream of marketing to the same people multiple times you are obviously thinking “How do I keep up with the whole thing while I am closing the customers that I am already getting?” The honest answer is get a direct mail company to help you. Whatever size your mailing list is I suggest that you have enough pieces printed to mail to them at least three times. Usually once every 2-4 weeks is sufficient depending on your industry. You can set the dates for your mailings to go out and let the marketing company take care of the rest. That means that with one phone call you can take care of all of your marketing for 3 months or more. No worrying about remembering, no hassle-filled trips to the post office. All you will have to do is run your business the way that you know how and let them take care of your marketing. Stop worrying about the steady flow of business that you need to survive. Do something about it. Create a marketing plan, date it for a while, then if it really works out, say I do. If you need more information on testing out your new marketing beau, read my article Dont Assume, Just Test and Track. Best wishes and a prosperous life together! Building Stronger Relationships With Gift Giving

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Anne Harvester Most people would agree that health, happiness, friendship and love are the most valuable assets in life. Some of these assets, however, are not always in our control. Being a wonderful friend and showing the important people in your life how much you care is something that can be rewarding for you and your loved ones. Gift giving is one important way express love and friendship. There are a multitude of different ways to show your loved ones how much you value them. For family members and close friends, spending quality time together is at the top of that list. This time could be spent having routine family dinners or celebrating special events like birthdays and the holidays. During the latter, a nice way of building stronger relationships is with gift giving. The giving of gifts is also a great way to connect with important people in your life who live far away. Building stronger relationships with gift giving can be really easy. The most important thing to remember is to be thoughtful. Don’t select a gift at random or pick one out based on your own personal interests. You should use the knowledge you have gained about the recipient to choose a gift based on his or her interests and passions. This shows that you know your friend or loved one well and that you are willing to go the extra mile to select something you know he or she will love. If you have trouble finding the perfect pre-made item, another way you can build a stronger relationship with gift giving is to help create or personalize the gift yourself. For example, if you know your friend loves chocolate, you could select an array of exotic or flavored chocolates and include them in a something akin to Valentines Day gifts. If he or she loves bears, you could create a personalized gift basket that contains cute and cuddly teddy bears, gummy bears and other bear-related items. You can also build stronger relationships with gift giving if you know a friend or a loved one is sick or going through a difficult and stressful time. Nice, personalized gifts in these situations could be healthy fruit and goodie gift baskets, or one that includes fun games like crossword puzzles to help raise his or her spirits. Receiving personalized gifts such as these when you’re feeling down can really brighten your day. Building stronger relationships with gift giving works in business settings as well. Perhaps you want to impress your co-workers, boss or an important client with an amazing and thoughtful gift. Corporate gift baskets packed with premium goodies you’ve picked out yourself is a great way to show how much you value the relationship. Putting in that extra effort can often help build a somewhat distant relationship into a long-lasting friendship. If you have important relationships you want to maintain or are trying to build, thoughtful gift giving can be a fun and effective tool. By selecting or personalizing special gifts whenever the timing feels right, you can show how much you care and continue to grow your bond into the future. Part One: Could ViRexx Medical’s “Linked Recognition” Research Lead to a Cancer Vaccine?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=James_Finch] James Finch A SCIENTISTS 20-YEAR UNFINISHED JOURNEY TO TREAT HBV MAY OPEN THE DOOR TO A NEW CLASS OF FLEXIBLE VACCINES While preparing a lecture in biochemistry and virology for his graduate students at the University of Alberta in the early 1980s, Dr. Lorne Tyrrell ran across a study just published in the medical journal, Cell. The research by William Mason and Jesse Summers, entitled Replication of Hepatitis B, discussed their study of the hepatitis B virus in infected duck liver. After studying their duck model theory, Tyrrell speculated if the hepatitis B virus (HBV) might be susceptible to antiviral agents, and consulted with a colleague, who specialized in nucleoside chemistry. Both medical professors became excited about the possibility of inhibiting the HBV virus with nucleoside analogues. Thus began the infectious disease specialists first leg of a journey, which led to the use of lamivudine as a therapy for chronic HBV infections. More than 350 million people across the world, especially in Asia, now had new hope, some for their lifelong infections contracted vertically at birth from their mothers. In 2003, the Center for Disease Control estimated 73,000 Americans were infected with HBV, and about 5,000 die each year from sickness caused by HBV. It is reportedly 100 times more contagious than the AIDS virus. Many in North America, who had been infected with the virus from sexual transmission or intravenous drug use, were offered a potentially life-saving therapy. Licensed in 1998, lamivudine is now used in 120 countries as a standard therapy for chronic HBV carriers. The compound is also used in combination with other drugs, such as protease inhibitors, for HIV therapy. Development rights were licensed to Glaxo Wellcome in 1990, which is now sold under the brand name Epivir. For his pioneering efforts in developing the antiviral agent, Dr. Tyrrell was awarded the gold medal by the Canadian Liver Foundation and the Canadian Association for the Study of Liver in 2000. In 2005, he won the prestigious EnCana Principal Award for his development of the first effective oral medication for Hepatitis B. HIS UNANSWERED QUESTIONS LAUNCHED A NEW HBV INVESTIGATION Despite the awards and recognition, questions remained for Dr. Tyrrell about the shortcomings of lamivudine. He was troubled that some viruses would develop resistance to the compound. I was disappointed the sustained viral response was not complete, Tyrrell told us. In April 2003, the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy published a study in Japan showing, long-term (lamivudine) therapy is associated with increased emergence of lamivudine-resistant strains of HBV. Researchers concluded in this study, The therapeutic challenge to effectively treat chronic HBV infection continues. Having screened lamivudine for use in Hepatitis B at Glaxos research lab at the University of Alberta, Dr. Tyrrell was able to observe the immune response of various HBV patients. What really got me interested in doing more work in this area was that we noticed patients, who have an immune response to the virus and take lamivudine, will have a better sustained response rate, Tyrrell explained. A patient with elevated liver transaminases taking lamivudine had a higher probability of a sustained viral response, Tyrrell said with excitement in his voice. In a patient with normal liver enzymes, who gets lamivudine, the virus will go down, but as soon as you stop the therapy, the virus comes right back up. He told us the sustained viral response is only about two to three percent. Only about 30 percent remain free of the virus, about one year after patients have stopped taking lamivudine. How do you break tolerance? Tyrrell asked himself, hoping to develop a way to stimulate an immune response. All of the patients, he had observed, seemed to be tolerant of the hepatitis B virus. He pondered the dilemma, Was there some way to break tolerance to hepatitis B by stimulating the immune response? Tyrrell studied what others were attempting and wasnt satisfied with the approaches others were taking to stimulate immune response. His ViRexx Medical research team brainstormed about different ways to target the antigen into the dendritic cells. Thats where we came in with the Chimigen technology, Tyrrell said. The dendritic cells have receptors on their surface that will bind the Fc portion of an antibody. He pointed out a key feature of the Chimigen platform, We used the Fc portion of a murine (mouse) antibody to hook onto our hepatitis B antigens. This would direct the viral antigens into dendritic cells in vivo. Because the dendritic cells are the sentries of the immune system, they guard what comes in. Recognizing a foreign situation in the murine antibody, it treats the whole molecule including the virus antigen as foreign. LINK RECOGNITION MAY HOLD THE KEY Dr. Rajan George, ViRexx Medicals vice president of research and development, told us, The dendritic cells chop up this protein into small pieces called peptides, also known as epitopes. The dendritic cells have a system where they put the T-cell epitope on another protein, MHC Class I, and bring it to the surface of the dendritic cell. They are presented as a complex on the surface of the dendritic cell to attract the T-cells. When the T-cells arrive to inspect the foreign entity, the cytotoxic T-cells are activated. Then, they begin attacking and killing the virus-infected cells. Research at Tokyos Cancer Institute Hospital, published in 1987 in Nippon Sanka Fujinka Gakkai Zasshi, suggested a feasibility of linked recognition of a virus antigen as a helper in tumor immunity with a target antigen. In the case of ViRexx Medical, Tyrrells team has created a new molecule, called chimigen. The term is shorthand for a chimeric antigen, meaning it is an antigen created from two different sources, part virus and part murine monoclonal antibody. Dr. Tyrrells work at ViRexx Medical with Dr. George suggested the linked-recognition theory might be the key to breaking tolerance. Dr. George emphasized, The new chimigen stimulates an immune response to the antigen as well as the viral antigen. This is very important because the virus antigen was previously being ignored. That brings us back to why lamivudine had limited success. The immune systems of some HBV carriers failed to recognize the viral infection as a threat to the body. Tyrells ViRexx Medical research team hopes the bodys immune system sees the threat, thus stimulating the immune system, and breaking tolerance. It appears Dr. Tyrell may soon find out whether or not the questions he asked will bring the answers he hoped for. END OF PART ONE COPYRIGHT 2007 by StockInterview, Inc. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Would You Like Advice On Dating? Simply Read On

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Michelle J. Martine Dating can be a minefield, no matter how old or young we are. First dates can be stressful for teenagers or for divorcees who haven’t dated for twenty years. My advice on dating is borne from experience. You learn from mistakes. No matter how you cut the deck, there has to be a first date. Of course, you may have known someone for a long time beforehand and been friends which should ease the tension. Let us suppose you don’t know each other very well. The fun of dating is learning about each other, peeling away the layers and discovering all those wonderful habits and personality. You are excited, nervous but in a good way. Dress smart casual, don’t overdo it. Dutch courage is ok but in moderation, turning up tipsy won’t make a good impression. My advice on dating for men is, dont be afraid of corny signals. As a woman, I never believe another woman who says she doesn’t like receiving flowers. She’s kidding herself. Whoever arranges the date, and let’s face it, it’s still usually the man, must organize it to go smoothly. Don’t make it up as you go along. Impulsive diverting from the plan is fine but that there has to be a plan in the first place. It’s no use rocking up to an exclusive restaurant without booking a table. My advice on dating is to keep the first few dates simple anyway, there’s no need to put pressure on you. I always give advice on dating for the first occasion to be a lunch date. There’s something more relaxing about it. It’s like a semi date and easier to walk away from if you don’t hit it off. Everyone worries about what to talk about on dates. There are some rules I would specify for advice on dating. Remember to listen and show you’re interested in what your date has to say. Show this by asking questions. When it’s time to talk about you, it’s not required that you give your entire life story. A brief outline will do, and if you can punctuate it with amusing story then the entire better. Many people, especially those who have gone through a divorce and been off the dating carousal for a while, use the services of a dating agency. I wouldn’t knock them as long as you don’t build your hopes too high. Mr. or Miss Perfect may be on their files, but they might not. Why we click with certain people can’t be defined and bottled. We are into the strange world of sexual chemistry here. The files will match you up to people with similar interests and background, but what about opposites attracting. It’s really not a science. The dating agency will give advice on dating, as far as staying safe is concerned. They vet their clients as best they can but it’s advisable to meet in a public place. A recent trend has been speed dating sessions. You have five minutes to chat and decide if you’re interested or not. It’s not long but at least you don’t get lumbered with someone with a personality bypass. It could be fun and remember that fun should be the buzz word concerning advice on dating here. Don’t be too intense when you’re out there. If you have I need a soul friend stamped on your forehead, you’ll scare everybody away. Michelle J. An Introduction To Outdoor Fireplaces

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Josh Riverside Outdoor fireplaces, embracing beauty and durability, provide the warmth and attractive ambiance of a wood-cracking campfire. They add ambience and style to any outdoor occasion. A perfect architectural addition to ones patio, pool area or backyard, outdoor fireplaces make a great gathering place to spend time on a frosty winter night. Outdoor fireplaces can either be a permanent masonry structure or a portable model. The portable outdoor fireplaces are lightweight and produce long-lasting heat without sparking ashes. Some portable fireplaces can even be doubled as a flame barbecue or grill. Chimineas, fire-pits, and built-in outdoor fireplaces are the various types. Chimineas are cheap and made of clay or cast iron/aluminum. Fire pits are another option for outdoor fireplaces, which generate the excitement of a campfire. The built-in outdoor fireplaces are often made of brick, block, or concrete and are more expensive than the other two. Unlike indoor fireplaces, outdoor fireplaces are more susceptible to wind. So it is necessary to build a shelter for the fireplaces and the chimneys must be constructed taller than the indoor ones. Outdoor fireplaces mainly have a firebox, smoke chamber, flue, and a chimney. Materials commonly used to construct these are stainless steel, enamel coated steel, cast iron, bronze, copper, or a combination of these materials. Cast iron is a good choice, as it gives a romantic old world setting to ones outdoor space. Enamel coated outdoor fireplaces prevent weather wear. Usually, outdoor fireplaces burn wood, charcoal, or pressed wood logs. But nowadays, outdoor fireplaces fueled by natural gas are gaining more popularity. For a clean burning fire, the gas modeled outdoor fireplaces are appropriate. They mainly use propane or natural gas as fuels, which prevent air pollution. Outdoor fireplaces come in a variety of sizes, styles and price points, meeting different decorative and functional needs. Montigo, Fire Rock Manufacturing, and Pacific Energy are some of the top manufacturers of outdoor fireplaces in the U.S. Outdoor Fireplaces provides detailed information on Outdoor Fireplaces, Outdoor Gas Fireplace, Outdoor Stone Fireplace, Outdoor Fireplace Plan and more. Trade Show Giveaways - Tips for Your Promotional Products

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Rick Sheldon Of course, giving away promotional items is a must at any trade show booth. Giving away and receiving cool products are part of the experience of attending and participating in the event. Youre there to network and build contacts by interacting with your prospective customers. Giving them useful, valuable, and interesting items helps them to remember your business. Beyond this simple reason, there are countless others that promotionals help you with as well. Products generate traffic toward your booth. People look for the most interesting gifts. They notice the items that other attendees carry. When you offer something unique, people will flock to your space to receive what you are donating. This equals opportunities for introduction, explanation of your company, and the beginning of new client relationships. These products also assist in the establishment of customer goodwill and loyalty regarding your company. Some gifts are appreciated more than others, and putting a little extra thought and care into one can create a connection between your potential clients and you. Yes, its true. Some items work better than others do. However, the approach does not have to entail lots of expense. Staying with a general theme or tying into your business message or slogan can be done easily by selecting a simple gift but planning the packaging, colors, or text effectively. There is no one perfect item to hand out. Tap into your creativity. You will want to select some product that invites discussion or curiosity, but again relates back to what it is you actually do. A health and fitness center may donate sport water bottles. And, a home building company may give out yard sticks or screwdrivers. One of the easiest, safest, most timeless items for giveaways at tradeshows is a pen. First of all, they are inexpensive. Moreover, they tend to acquire a lot of miles. One person almost never holds onto one for its entire life. They are passed along, left at random places, and used by people several times removed from the original situation. They assist in the development of a brand and help to increase its recognition. Nevertheless, if your budget allows for a more in a promotional giveaway, by all means do so. While the size and value of the gift are generally unimportant compared to the thought and creativity behind it, there are guidelines for spending at trade shows. Know that the general rule is to spend between $1 and $5 per person. And, though you may not wish to adopt this technique, some people do come prepared with two sets of offerings. One is to be given away to all passers-by at the trade show. The other is for serious inquiries that seem to be true prospects. To put it another way, anyone who stops by your booth to receive the gift or pick up a brochure should be considered a lead. It is wise to strive to create an impression. Offer your business card, introduce yourself, and encourage them to look around. The free product will help them to remember you, and customers will able to receive something of quality in the amount of $1 to $5 per person. While you wont make a sale from every single individual, some of these people will definitely be back for further discussion and to do business. You will reach a portion of them. On the other hand, you will be faced with more serious leads. You can distinguish these characters by their expression of the need for your products or services. In addition, they will also have the resources to make a sale or the power to influence those that make the decisions. In this situation, some opt for offering an upgraded product that is the range of between $7 and $10 per person. Here, it is generally commonplace to let the recipient know that they are being given something special, something that not everyone else is. You can tell the person that you give an additional product to those that you really hope to be working with in the future. Express your gratitude of their interest and let the gift be a further incentive for them to return. They will surely get the idea that you have enjoyed meeting them and value any prospective business that has been inspired. In the end, you will probably be very glad that you invested the $10, and most likely you will experience the benefits. These trade show tips will hopefully be of assistance to you in the future. Keep them in mind as you plan your next successful promotional venture. Our Teens and Drunk Driving - What Can We do to Stop It?

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Andy Maingam Drink driving is responsible for a large number of deaths, injuries and accidents every year all over the world, and the problem doesnt seem to be getting any better either. When consumed, alcohol seems to take away any healthy fears or responsibilities that the person would probably have in their sober state. This problem needs to be nipped in the bud otherwise we’re going to see an even bigger increase in the crisis with our teens and drunk driving related deaths, accidents and injuries. Every parent does the best they can for their kids, but the bottom line is that once they get to those teenage years, many are more likely to go thorough a period where they are influenced by their peers rather than their parents. Unfortunately, many students are exposed to drinking at high school. There are some youngsters that seem to be constantly drinking and driving and never have an incident, whereas others have just one weak moment that ends in a driving catastrophe. I wish it wasn’t the case, but teens and drunk driving related incidents are on the increase. Drinking alcohol and driving a vehicle is a potentially deadly cocktail of events at any age, but statistically, teens and drunk driving is even worse. Whether drunk or sober, when a young driver gets behind the wheel of a car, many of them feel the need to make an impression on their passengers by driving erratically and at high speeds. We all know that ’speed’ kills, but speeding cars plus intoxicated drivers is just asking for trouble. Teens and drunk driving offences are not just something the bad kids do either, as even the smartest, the most reserved, and the most unlikely of them all, can and do fall victim to peer pressure on occasions. Another problems with teens (and I can remember this too!), is that they think they are indestructible and nothing bad could ever possibly happen to them. Even with educational programs and available statistics, most still think these are things that only happen to ‘other people’. Remember, it’s not always drunk drivers that become the killed or injured parties. Many innocent passenger, motorists, and bystanders can get caught up in accidents caused by a drunk driver too. So what’s the answer? I guess, education, education, and more education on the perils of teens and drunk driving related incidences. But I found a solution with my kids that seems to have worked wonders in installing a little sense and understanding into their growing minds. I made it an issue, a debate to be discussed, as opposed to a lecture on the dangers. It was also an education for me as a parent to realise that open discussion as opposed to laying down the laws was an effective way to communicate with adolescents and young adults. By asking the boys for their feelings on the subject and also letting them know how worried their mother and I were about this growing problem, had us all sitting down and chatting for ages. We didn’t speak at them, we discussed with them, and there is a big difference. What’s more, we listened to what they had to say without interruption and I think that by the end of our conversation we had planted a seed of sensibility into their minds regarding teens and drunk driving. Only time will tell, but we’ve found that by treating the kids as young adults instead of potential scoundrels has given both sides a little more mutual respect and that means they are more susceptive and less rebellious towards our ideals. The Unknown Health Benefits of Green Tea

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

By James Hegarty Drinking tea usually conjures up images of cold nights by the fireplace or an afternoon in the English country side. True the British are famous for their tea drinking habit which is really a national culture. But enjoyable as that might be that is not the kind of tea we have in mind here. Green tea is a different brew of tea and like its relative the afternoon tea green tea is more popular for its benefits in the area of health. Do not dismiss green tea as being un-enjoyable for drinking because it is. But unlike afternoon tea it stands tops overall because of much more. Green tea can be enjoyed and drank for pleasure. Brewed, it has a nice light flavored taste that is best described as delicate. It can be drunk sweetened or unsweetened, with natural sugar or with any of the numerous blends of sweeteners like splenda. It is also available today as a bottled beverage for the enjoyment of all. But what are the real benefits of green tea as opposed to regular tea you ask. Aside from the pleasure it provides as a beverage for hot or cold days it can also act as an energy booster for those low energy days. Like other beverages such as coffee green tea contains caffeine. But unlike coffee it contains less quantity of caffeine, but in the amount just right to carry you through without the attendant jitteriness caused by the huge amount of caffeine from other caffeinated beverages like coffee. Green tea comes across as natures own natural boost medicine. It provides the right amount of boost for those low energy days by coming to the rescue with just the right stuff, but without any of the nasty negative side effects like anxiety occasioned by drinking coffee and other highly caffeinated beverages or drinks. So far we have seen the superior benefits of green tea but now for the greatest benefits of this wonderful product of nature. Green tea stands heads and shoulders above other regular teas because of its wonderful health benefits. Green tea contains massive amounts of antioxidants which combat the harmful effects of free radicals. What are free radicals? Free radicals are the natural resultant products of our bodies metabolic processes which if left unchecked can lead to some cell damage. Green tea works by fighting these harmful radicals and preventing any damage. Without a doubt your beverage of choice should be green tea for all the benefits of natures own beverage. Next time you face a slump or yearn for a drink to lessen the chill or the heat green tea is really natures one stop shop for you. Enjoy your next cup. Basics of Weight Balance

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Ken Bendor Some are looking to lose weight and others are looking to gain weight but maintaining weight is usually not talked about a lot. Staying at your target weight is always the end goal. Whether you’re trying to gain weight or lose weight, eventually you’ll need to stop. Keeping your weight stable is a simple equation similar to losing or gaining. To maintain your weight, you need to eat the same amount of calories that you burn each day. If you start exercising more then you have to eat more calories or else you’ll start to lose weight. If you decrease your exercise level then you also have to lower the amount of food you eat or the weight will start to come on. Your first step is to figure out how many calories you burn each day. Use the Daily Calorie Needs Calculator for an estimate. Based on your age, sex, weight, height and activity level, the calculator will give you an approximation of the amount of calories you burn each day. Next, find out how many calories you are eating everyday. Count your calories for three days and take the average. The three days have to be typical of your regular diet. You now have the amount of calories you burn and the number you eat each day. The only step left is to match these two numbers. You have three options to make the equalize the numbers. You can change your activity level (increase of decrease), you can change the amount you eat (increase or decrease) or you can do a combination of the two. Practicing weight balance is about averaging your daily intake and daily expenditure of calories so that they’ll match over long periods of time (weeks, months). Don’t get caught up in trying to make them equal every single day. Concentrate on doing this over a weekly and monthly basis. One day of over eating won’t mess you up but a week or month will.
