Christian Almsgiving The Habit Of Helping People

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Glen D. Williams We’re taught a lot about giving, but it’s usually only about the tithes and offerings that support the church and the ministers doing the teaching. This leaves the most important aspects of giving untaught and grossly misunderstood. In this article, we’ll discuss the rewarding and often controversial issue of Almsgiving. Almsgiving is the Christian habit of giving things to fill the needs of perfect strangers. Hold on to your hats, because some of what we’ll cover can make people hopping mad. Selfish, Greedy Christians: It’s always shocking to me when I discover how stingy we Christians are. So many of us go around trying to figure out how to pay someone the least and get the most from them. We’re notorious in restaurants for making a show of our prayer over the meal and then stiffing the poor waitress who served it. In this context, then, it makes sense that we would be more responsive to teachings about offerings in the church than to giving things to total strangers. After all, the money we give in church benefits us with better speakers, music, children’s programs, chairs, etc. When we give to strangers who can do nothing for us, it’s difficult to believe there are benefits, but those benefits are promised in the Bible. Give Alms Unselfishly: Jesus said we would receive blessings from God if we give alms. The Bible says God will give to us because we give to others. This is not why we should give, but it is a promise from God. The reason we should give is to help others and to cause them to praise God. If we give to fulfill a religious compulsion or duty, there is no blessing. If we give to make a show for others, that’s all the blessing we receive. But, if we give unselfishly, just to bless others by showering God’s blessing on them, we’re giving alms with the proper attitude and we receive God’s blessing for doing so. Don’t Give If It Hurts: The right attitude about giving is one that desires to be a help to the person receiving the gift. It’s amazing how much confusion there is about this. Some teach you should give anyone whatever they ask for. Even Jesus didn’t do this! We have a “Loaves and Fishes” ministry near us that feeds the homeless (used to be called bums). Jesus fed the people who came to hear His teaching and were so interested in His teaching they didn’t leave to go eat. He refused to feed people who came to him only for food, though He had fed them the day before. The point is, He had no compassion on people who were begging just to get a free meal. Paul wrote, “If they don’t work, let them not eat.” Proverbs says hunger serves the laborer by spurring him on to work. When we give people food who could earn it for themselves, we may be satisfying our need to give but we’re hurting the ones we’re giving to. In the New Testament days, there were no social welfare, disability, security or retirement programs provided by the Government for people who couldn’t or wouldn’t provide for themselves. Now, in the modern countries, there is absolutely no reason to go hungry or homeless on more than a very temporary basis. Just giving money to these people may make a Christian feel good, but it only supports a very harmful lifestyle. This is especially true of drug addicts and alcoholics. Giving anything to them…money, food, clothing, housing…only frees up all the money they receive for their drug of choice. We’re literally helping them destroy themselves. Do you really think this is what God wants us to do for them? Is our motive in giving to satisfy some arbitrary religious ritual or to satisfy someone’s needs? Almsgiving That Helps: In the modern world, poor people don’t need money, they need more work. Addicts don’t need to be supported, they need to recover sobriety. If we’re really interested in helping someone, we must seek to satisfy their needs, not their wants. Is this to say we shouldn’t give? No way! Instead, we should use the time and care to give in a way that really helps. If a homeless person asks for money, offer to help them find a job. If an addict asks for housing, help them find a treatment center. Use your generosity to hire a gardener for the old lady down the street or to tip the waitress 50%. Buy lemonade at every stand and pay a dollar a glass. Buy stuff from every kid that comes to the door. Giving alms can be fun…like casting bread on the water to feed ducks. When we give wisely, we avoid feeding someone’s destructive lifestyle and, instead, reinforce the right values. For example, as head of almsgiving at a local church, I discovered welfare recipients had begun networking our phone number because no one was even making sure they had a need. We were sending thousands of dollars every month to total strangers we had never met. I decided they would have to show up and do whatever work around our grounds that they could (sweeping, stacking chairs, etc.), or to help us help others in some way. Within a few months, we were getting no calls. One church member got out of control financially and asked for money. While giving her the money she needed, I reviewed her budget, recommended she get a full-time job and make some spending changes. Several months later, after doing what I suggested, she came back for over a thousand dollars to catch up with her bills. She used the “extra” money from her new job to buy a new luxury truck she didn’t need. The payments and insurance put a strain on her budget. Again, while helping her get through the pinch. I recommended she sell the truck and use the equity to catch up on her bills and buy a used sedan for cash. She did what I suggested, never needed to beg the church for money again, lost weight, wore nice clothes and hated me for “making” her do it. Let me ask you, would I have helped her by just giving her the money she asked for? It took about 10 hours of my time to review her finances and actually help her. Instead of just throwing money at people or performing a religious ritual of almsgiving, we can use the blessing God has given us to bless others. It takes time and a real heart for people to find out what they need and help them. When we take the time to share the love of God through actually meeting the needs of people, they will see our good deeds and praise our Father in Heaven. Make The Best Quilts With The Long Arm Quilting Machine

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Clive Jenkins It is said that the first signs of quilting originated in Egyptian historical clothing artifacts and in the times of the templer knights. It was originally used to re-enforce clothes in order to make them warmer for winter. Contemporary quilting has become a rather work of art instead of a clothing necessity and there are many exhibitions that support the beautiful creations of quilt makers. People that choose to make quilts for a living can be considered true artists, even if they do not use the hand quilting techniques. The modern technology helps them to express their artistic ideas in modern or traditional patterns of their quilts, using the Long Arm Quilting Machine. It is perfect for the people who want to begin a business related to quilts sale and need to create a larger number of quilts. Therefore, the long arm quilting machine can assure you a high productivity and an increased efficiency. Before women were able to work, they often spend their time quilting and sewing. Few women came to the quilter’s house and spend their nights working together at the quilt. It was a great occasion for them to talk about food recipes, new quilt designs and share their experience to younger women. They managed to ease the long hours of hand quilting by the pleasant company. Today women are working mothers or corporate individuals and they have so little time that they would rather get together for a quick coffee instead of sewing together for a quilt. That is why instead of hand quilt and waste the few spare moments you have in your life you should use a long arm quilting machine. It is better than struggling with a king size quilt on your sewing machine. This will help you realize how you have worked on different parts of your quilt almost effortless and allow you to create your own king size or queen size quilt according to your own color or patterns preferences. Many traditional hand quilters don’t agree with the fact that the Long Arm Quilting Machine was added to the list of the necessary tools in creating a quilt, considering that it would take the pleasure and the individuality of quilting. There are two types of quilting machines: regular quilting machines and long arm quilting machines. The first category includes the machines with an approximately 7 inches arm. They allow you to work on different parts of the quilt, but you will have to change your position quite often because the arm is short. The long arm-quilting machine has an approximately 16 inch arm and does the exactly same thing but the longer arm allows you to work without having to change your position and this means extra-time for you in the process of creating the quilt. It works on the principle based on several poles that hold your quilt tight on the position and a sewing machine rides along the track, quilting as it goes. But what are the advantages of a long arm quilting machine compared to the other quilting machines? It has a synchronous belt, which increases the speed and eliminates slippage. It wraps around the pulley and eliminates the tear and wear of the machine, and reduces the noise level too. The synchronous drive system gives you efficiency, saving energy and has a low maintenance quilting machine. It can also give you a better perspective upon the work you have done so far, how you have assembled the pieces, while keeping them tight for you to work on. If you intend to start a quilts business, you should probably invest a higher budget on a Long Arm Quilting Machine that can assure you swift and accurate work. Some of the biggest names of the manufacturers that produce long arm quilting machines are Gammil, Nolton and Hanson, but the best European models might get up to 3000$. Therefore, the more quality the machine produces, the more expensive might get and in order to have the best quilts for sale you need the best long arm machine you can get. The quality of your quilts will draw more customers you could handle. Though, you can find less expensive models if you do not afford a top-line model and you intend to create quilts just for your own personal use. If you decide you want a more performing one later for business purposes, do not worry the offer is very rich. Using a long arm-quilting machine can help you in your quilt business or to create king size quilts in a variety of patterns, colors and designs for your own home and you will have the satisfaction of having accomplished it by yourself. Seven Ways to Stand Out in a Sea of Applicants

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Mary Jeanne Vincent Is your rsum getting lost in a flood of rsums? Are you certain you could demonstrate your value to potential employers, if you could just get in front of them? Do you want to dramatically increase your chances of getting a follow-up call from employers? Bait your job-search hook with these seven tips and youll catch a whale of a good job. 1. Write a focused, accomplishment-centered rsum. Make sure that your rsum includes several examples of how you added value in previous positions. Include what you did, the outcome and why that is important. I guarantee you will stand out from the crowd if you target your rsum, highlight key skills, include success stories complete with results, and make it easy on the eyes. 2. Respond to appropriate ads. The owner of a successful job-search website often hears employers complain about job seekers who apply without offering any relevant qualifica-tions. Do yourself and everyone else a favor by responding to those ads that are obvious matches for your skills. If you have the right experience but your rsum doesnt show it, write a new rsum! Are you attempting to break into a new field? Do your homework first so that you can state your qualifications and background in terms that apply to the new job or industry. Remember, its okay to have more than one version of your rsum. There is no such thing as good generic rsum. 3. Take time to write a cover letter that addresses the specific requirements of the position. Use the job posting to identify requirements then match them to your qualifi-cations. Include examples of accomplishments that demonstrate the required skills. 4. Make the subject line compelling when sending your rsum by e-mail. Simply writing rsum in the subject line is boring, boring, boring. How many e-mails in an employers deluge contain rsum in the subject line? Thousands, I suspect. Use your subject line to immediately engage the reader and make him or her want to open your rsum first! If it lives up to the subject line he or she may never move on to the next one. 5. Whenever possible direct your rsum and follow-up call to the person who has the power to hire you. This requires that you do some investigating to find out the name or title of the person who is the hiring manager. Yes, this takes a little more effort but the payoff is worth it. 6. Call to follow up. Most job seekers send out their rsum and never follow up. They expect the employer to call them. Demon-strate that you are a go-getter by picking up the telephone and making that all important connection. First, confirm that your rsum has been received. Then politely inquire about the position and the next steps in the process. Ask when it would be appropriate to check back with them. Treat whomever you speak with on the telephone with respectyou could be talking with the decision-maker. 7. Be prepared to sell yourself over the telephone. Most companies pre-screen applicants by telephone. Dont make the mistake of thinking this isnt a real interview. You need to shine here or you wont make it to the next level. Be prepared. Smile when you answer the telephone. Its show time! Mary Jeanne Vincent is the author of Acing the Interview tip cards featuring answers to the top 20 killer interview questions. Also included are tips for interviewing in the new economy, ideas for responding to illegal and trick questions, and suggestions for avoiding 10 deadly interview mistakes. Where to Get Ideas for Personalized Wedding Gifts

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Natalie Aranda Simple. The task becomes easier if you know the likes and dislikes of the couple. If you dont know then a little inquiry with the family and friends could give you clues about the preferences of the bride and the groom. That would be fantastic, as the recipients would be overwhelmed with happiness for the thoughtfulness shown by the gift giver. Though the market is filled with regular wedding gifts, its always better to take a little extra effort and gift something thats personal to the couple. The regular wedding gifts are baskets of chocolates, flowers, wine bottles, cakes, perfume bottles, flower basket for the bride, bridal jewelry, neckties and watches for the groom etc Photo frames and albums, dinner sets, candle stands, flower vases, crystal champagne flutes, jewelry boxes, pen stands etc. are some more items that constitute part of wedding gift list. A box or basket of chocolate candy is also a good wedding gift idea. The chocolate candy wrappers can be ordered to carry specific wedding wishes. Personalized wedding gifts can be purchased at special stores that deal with these unique items or can be done by yourself. A quilt with photographs that feature both the bride and groom is a great personalized wedding gift idea. Photos can be printed on the pillows too as personalized wedding gifts. A collection of favorite books, paintings, CDs that is liked by both bride and groom is also a great personalized wedding gift idea. The idea of presenting the newlywed couple with romantic gifts like massage kit, edible body paint, sex manual like kamasutra that describes the art of making love may go down well with the couple if they are not inhibited about the romantic aspect of marriage. A treat for the couple at choice restaurant, followed by tickets for a play are also a good way of showing your wish for them to spend intimate moments with each other. If its affordable on the part of the gift giver, an all expenses paid holiday packages are a marvelous idea of personalized wedding gift. Probably the best personalized wedding gift is penning down a poem for the couple and putting it in a frame for their future. A panting featuring either the bride or the groom or both is another gift idea that has no equals. But writing a poem, drawing and painting are not every ones cups of tea. Those who cannot do that can choose from a number of gift items mentioned above that are available in the stores. Natalie Aranda writes about family, love and relationship. Sleeping Bags, S’mores, and Scavenger Hunts: Tips for Planning a Successful Kid’s Slumber Party

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Christine Harrell Slumber parties are a blast for kids and can even be enjoyable for adults with a little bit of planning. The most important thing is to plan activities that keep kids entertained while at the same time, giving them a certain level of autonomy. Sleeping ArrangementsChoose a room in your home that has an ample amount of space for all kids to layout out their sleeping bags without feeling cramped. Its always a good idea to have one or two extra kids sleeping bags on hand to avoid someone feeling left out of the group. Today there are many bright, fun, kids sleeping bags available online at affordable prices. Even with extras, kids sleeping bags usually get their fair share of use throughout the slumber party years. When guests arrive, show them around the house beyond the main party and sleeping room so they can get acquainted with their new surroundings. Not knowing what lies down hallways and behind doors can be a source of anxiety for kids at night as they try to fall asleep. Show them where to find the bathrooms and keep extra toiletries out for when they run out. ActivitiesKids want to feel like theyre dong their own thing and as they get older, they tend to want fewer structured activities. However, as a parent you can still plan activities that they can initiate themselves when the time is right. Karaoke is an activity for kids of all ages and can keep a group entertained for hours. Check your local directory for places that rent karaoke machines for parties. Scavenger hunts can be great fun for kids and allow them to engage in a constructive activity while being independent. Preparing the scavenger hunt theme, puzzles, and prizes before the slumber party allows you to give structure to the action without having to directly lead it. Having ample amounts of dress up clothes for young girls or make-up and hair products for older girls can keep them happy and busy for hours. Boys may enjoy a selection of movies or video games. Before the party, take your child with you to the video rental store and pick out games that are fun for multiple players. With a large group of boys, parents may want to consider moving an extra TV in to the room where kids have parked their sleeping bags and borrowing a second game system from a friend. Food and SnacksEvery kid has their likes and dislikes when it comes to food. Try choosing food for the party that allows kids to build their own meal such as tacos or individual size pizza that kids can design then eat later once theyre cooked. Kids love to experiment with food and do-it-yourself food items can be a great source of entertainment. Every slumber party needs smores to eat while sharing stories at the edge of a sleeping bag, but not necessarily a campfire. With some graham crackers, chocolate cake frosting, and marshmallow spread, kids can make their own tasty smores snacks that rival the traditional fire-melted recipe. A well-planned slumber party can be a fun experience for both kids and adults. By preparing activities before hand that give kids independence without running wild and aimlessly through your home, everyone can have a great experience. Case Study - Small Business Branding by Maid in the Shade

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By John Sampson Effective branding is key to getting your small business to spread. Maid in the Shade is an example of how two women with an entrepreneurial spirit and dedication can create a successful business with hard work and solid branding. Theyve been in business for almost 20 years now, and have a staff of over 30 people. They consider their branding to be an important part of their business development. Maid in the Shade wanted to emphasize that they were not just providing their clients with cleaning services, but giving them more quality time in their lives. This could mean more time for family, friends, projects and recreation. For commercial clients, the value of Maid in the Shade would be that they could increase employee productivity and gain more respect from their clients by always having a clean workplace. Another element they wanted to portray in their image is that they are well-established, professional and trustworthy. The Maid in the Shade logo, which they call broomy, has been a key element in their branding. The logo is of a smiling broom with sunglasses. This catchy image sticks in peoples minds and helps them to stand out among their competitors. They receive a lot of positive feedback about their cute name and logo. Maid in the Shade has used various means over the years to build their brands. They have used Yellow Pages ads, ads in local papers, flyers, networking and search engine marketing. Their recently updated website helps build their image by using a Flash animation on the home page, quality content explaining their experience and commitment to quality, and easy to use navigation and forms. The clean, professional look of the website has earned a lot of compliments and helped create the image that they are a well established business. Since they launched the new site, they have seen a higher percentage of visitors filling out the request a quote form, which often leads to more business. Beyond all of the marketing, Maid in the Shade builds its business by being the reputable company it claims to be. Keeping customers happy has helped them maintain steady growth while keeping their current clients. Is your Website Working?

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Paul Chiswick A. The Basics Before launching into a new strategy it is important to examine why you have made, or are about to make, an investment in the internet. The first question to ask is what is the objective your investment? Do you wish to: Enhance your brand Have an electronic advertisement Generate competitive advantage Change the way you do business Attract new business Increase sales Reduce the cost of sale Increase profits Move to electronic trading Keep up with the competition, or Is it just an act of faith? Your objective can be one, several, all of these, or it may be something that is not on this list. Our contention is that the objective of a commercial organizations internet strategy is to increase profits, and the route to achieve this is by identifying, attracting, winning and retaining customers profitably. Having agreed that this is a realistic objective to pursue, does your internet strategy support this? Some answers may be: It does and it is working It does and is partially working It has not been in operation long enough to have an informed judgement. It does not! In reality it is either working or not! Your strategy must be to deliver customers to your business, getting them to your web site is only the first step. It is vital therefore to understand the nature of the internet user today. In the UK for example (according to the Office of National Statistics) 49% of householders, 12.1m in all have access to the internet; 85% use the internet for email, and 50% use the internet for commercial transactions. Some recent research from Penn University in the USA shows that there are no longer surfers of the internet, there are searchers - people who are actively seeking something specific. Their survey of 450000 web queries shows that overwhelmingly people use search engines to drive answers to their needs. However, over 80% stop searching after looking at just three results 50% only enter one search over 50% only look at the first page of results only 19% looked at the second page of results fewer than 10% looked at the third page people make instantaneous judgements about whether to stay on a site, and if a site doesn’t give the right impression users will bypass it Added to this the search engine suppliers now know how to make money and are actively marketing their services. The net results are more sponsored sites, hence Pay per Click, or Cost per Click is starting to win over free listings. Other ways of driving prospects to your site such as email and banner advertising are reducing in effectiveness. There are many organizations that will claim to help you improve your return on investment by driving guaranteed traffic to your site. But is it the right traffic? Having 10000 visits does not guarantee business, B. Improving the effectiveness of your internet strategy Bearing in mind the comments above, our view is that the key to successful internet marketing focuses on the four key points below, executed in the most cost effective manner. 1. Identification How many potential customers are actively looking to buy yours, or your competitors’, products/services? - by identifying key search words for a product or service it is possible to determine the actual number of searches over a given period Can you increase this number? - only half the population has a PC, but a large percentage of the population has a mobile phone - refining search terms may give higher search numbers How can you find out who they are? - do your existing customers know you have a website? - in a B2B environment you can acquire business lists, though the accuracy of these is not always good. - in B2C lists are also available. However, if an organization can create a viral (referral) environment better quality lists can be created - the same applies to mobile phone users Sources Direct Marketing Association/Iboost What is the most effective way of contacting them; Is it email, mobile phone (voice or text), search engine optimisation pay per click, banner? - in most cases a combination of the above is required to drive an acceptable response rate per pound invested 2. Attraction Having identified the target market and chosen your selected contact methods how can they be attracted to your web site? Pay per click will get them there if you have made a bid for your key words that put you near the top of the sponsored list. The question is how do you keep them there? Banners will only be effective if they offer something different, exciting and of real value to the searcher. The same applies to other internet advertising methods. Email can be really effective providing the mailing list has become an opt in list and if there is value for the recipient. As far as mobile phone is concerned, avoidance of high tariff response numbers is essential. Is there value for your existing customers to use your web site? 3. Winning Having successfully attracted potential customers to your website, how do you get them to buy? Given the Penn University research it was never truer that you only get one chance to make a good impression. One assumes that the products or services on offer are competitive in terms of price, brand and quality, therefore your site must: Give the right impression - test market your site - your customers views are more important than your web designers or advertising agency - will it get the searchers attention? Be up to date - ensure news pages are current - check offers have not expired - current offers must be appealing Reflect the search terms - if some one searches on used red ferrari, get them directly to that page - be easy to navigate - make sure it is easy to move about - make menus simple and clear Make the buying experience pleasant and rewarding. Even if the prospect is not buying, the minimum required from their visit is some personal information. 4. Retention Customers are lost more often than not by poor service rather than quality. However, getting feedback is always difficult. Make the feedback process rewarding and fun - it is difficult to get feedback, so why not present the process in a way that encourages the recipient to respond Find ways to make your satisfied customers your ambassadors - the feedback process should be capable of rewarding the recipient for referring your products and services to other prospects Remarket regularly; it goes without saying that this a necessity, but remarket using the method that is most likely to drive results People dont want points, they would rather have cash! - loyalty schemes are good and they do encourage more spend - however, if you offer cash back or a discount on a future purchase, and tie it into the feedback process it is more focused, probably less expensive and more effective. Summary Have a clear, realistic, achievable, and measurable financial objective. The strategy should be to identify, attract, win and retain customers profitably An internet strategy is a business strategy and is not just a website Review it like any other strategy. Dating Bliss For Singles And Those In A Relationship 5

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Sebastian Foss DON NOT EXPECT MARRIAGE TO AUTOMATICALLY MAKE YOU HAPPY. Many people enter into marriage with unrealistic expectations only to be frustrated after some time. God expects you toto be whole and happy with yourself before marriage, that is one of the purposes of the single stage-to equip so that you will find true peace and fulfillment in Christ. If you are not happy before marriage, you cannot be happy because of marriage. Dont expect of marriage what it is not primary designed for because the joy, peace & happiness of marriage can only be experienced by those who enter it with joy, peace and happiness. THE WAY YOU LEAVE YOUR SINGLE STAGE DETERMINES THE WAY YOU ENTER INTO MARRIAGE. Marriage is a vacuum and it is what you bring into it that will fill it. If you both come in unhappy, you will have an unhappy marriage. Marriage does not give you what you want, buy it gives you who you are. DONT MARRY A STATUS, SYMBOL, IMAGE OR A TITLE God ordained marriage to take place between a man and woman and not a man and an image or a woman and a title. - I plan to marry because she is from a rich family - I will marry him because he is a Bishop and I will be a first lady in his ministry. - She was the beauty queen of a popular beauty pageant. - He is a tope football star etc. These are just examples of reasons why not to marry anyone. God expects you to marry a person not an image, status or title because people are always different outside this public image and title . CHECK IN NOT OUT. Things are not always the way they seem, and most of the time people are different in their private life from what they are in public. After the shows, the performance and the acting, the real person goes home and that is what you really marry, so its wise to look before you leap. AVOID EVIL UNION DUE TO A PERVERTED LIFESTYLE. All over the world today, immorality and unrighteousness have become a normal way of life and this tide has subtly crept into the church. When God ordained marriage, it was to be a heterosexual union. Neither homosexuality nor lesbianism has a place in His original plan. But today we see homosexuality and lesbianism becoming an accepted way of life by a deceived people, group and society. You cannot know about a product more than the manufacturer and to operate a product contrary to the instructions on the manual is an error. God is the Author of marriage and the bible is His manual, thus, anything contrary to the Word of God is an error, so dont yield to the evil of perverted lifestyle SEE DELIVERANCE FROM SUCH EVIL DESIRES. Homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, incest etc. are all contrary to Gods divine order. It takes negative and positive to produce power, so also it takes make and female to produce fruit. PUT YOUR LIFE IN ORDER. HANDLE AGE DIFFERENCE WITH WISDOM AND MATURITY A close study of the Bible reveals that the man is usually older than the woman he marries. This is a general trend all through the Bible. However, it is not a sin for a guy to marry someone older than him or for a sister to marry someone younger than her. Marriage with reversed age difference requires wisdom and maturity from both partners, and they must be willing to pay the price and abide by the rules of such union. Dont seek or set your mind on having such reversed marriage but, if it happens, go ahead as long as you are sure you can handle it. I can give testimonies of reversed marriages where everything is working fine and I can also give testimony of reversed marriage filled with regrets and frustrations, so allow God to be final decisive factor. One major thing to watch out for is not to marry someone older then you as a man that you cant husband or someone younger than you as a woman that you cant submit to. DO NOT MARRY SOMEONE WHO PROMISE TO CHANGE LATER Anyone you meet as an adult with negative traits and who promised to change after marriage is a devil in disguise. If they have not changed all through their growth stage before you met them, if they have not changed all through their years of serving God and going to Church, then for them to claim they will change after marriage is a deception. SOMEONE THAT GOD HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BREAK AND CHANGE CANNOT BE CHANGED BY MARRIAGE. However, you should discern peoples sincerity, because some people only get to discover their weaknesses and hidden evil trait during their courtship through their partner, because no one has ever been open and close enough to make realise it. CHANGE IS A PROCESS BUT DISCERNMENT MUST BE IN PLACE TO UNVEIL DECEPTION AND HYPOCRISY. Border Water Bass - Catching Smallmouth Bass

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Joe Demalderis The sky was just overcast enough to give the feeling the fishing was going to be exceptional, but not enough clouds to cause any immediate concern for rain gear. The July air was heavy. The water was crystal clear and as it tumbled over the rocks it looked a lot colder than it was. A trout fisherman at heart, the colder the better is often my thought when it comes to summertime trout fishing. It was a good thing I wasnt trout fishing because the water warm enough to wet wade. All spring, fly fishermen from throughout the east make the trek to the Upper Delaware River hoping to catch one of the glory hatches and maybe a few of the hard fighting wild rainbows or browns that make the river their home. On their way, many fishermen drive by another stretch of the river that has its own challenging wild fishery. The area Im talking about is between Narrowsburg and Port Jervis, NY and the fish is the smallmouth bass. On this day, my good friend and fellow fly fishing guide, Wayne Aldridge and I decided to meet up and take a break from the mediocre trout fishing caused by low water flows and warm water. We slipped the drift boat off the trailer into a stretch of the Delaware that over the last thirty years or so had become one of my favorite smallmouth haunts. Late in June with the spawn complete and the rising water temperature increasing their metabolism, the smallmouth return from their honeymoon with a ravenous appetite. If youre a smallmouth fisherman you look forward to this as much as trout fishermen anticipate the spring Hendrickson and Quill Gordon hatches. For trout addicts, this fishery is a great quencher for the dog days and doldrums of warm, low water trout streams. We strung a few six weights to provide a mix of ammunition as we started out. I chose to try my luck with a sink tip line and one of Dave Skoks mushmouth saltwater flies, while Wayne drifted a hellgrammite he tied from Bill Skiltons recipe with Bills wooly bugger marabou chenille. It wasnt long before we were each into bass, scrapsters, but none the less smallmouths. A few fish later and it was time to change flies, and change flies we did. It was now time to play lets see if theyll eat this! I didnt keep count, but I dont think there was an unused fly in the boat by days end. I also cant remember not catching a fish on everything we threw. Thats one of the fun parts of this sort of fishing. Zonkers, E-Z Zonkers, Wooly Buggers, Sneaky Petes, Trim Jims, Stone Flies, Clousers, Crayfish, Leaches and others I just dont recall, all had their hooks connected to fish. This stretch of the Delaware encompasses over thirty miles of prime smallmouth habitat and is part of the nearly seventy-five mile long Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. We were fishing an eight mile piece of it. The most use this part of the river sees is by recreational canoes and rafters who enjoy its swifter currents and relative remoteness from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This more or less knocks out weekend fishing unless you dont mind the traffic, which isnt too bad if you stick to early mornings and evenings. The greatest fishing pressure this part of river sees is during May when mostly spin and some fly fishermen are chasing American shad. I have to say, like with all fishing, the most fun is when a fish comes to the top to eat your bug. Skipping Sneaky Petes and Trim Jims across the riffles gave us almost non-stop action on smaller fish, while propping the deeper water with streamers and hellgrammite flies gave up the bigger fish. All we needed to do was to keep our fly in the fishy looking stuff. Smallmouth bass habitat is easy to recognize. Simply, it looks like trout water, just warmer. Deep pools, boulder strewn runs, rapids, riffles, cuts and ledge pools are home to what many call the hardest fighting, pound for pound, freshwater game fish. Although native to the Great Lakes and Ohio River drainage, the smallmouth bass has either accidentally or intentionally made it way into waters throughout North America. Most would agree that hes been a welcome transplant to the Delaware and has established a secure wild population. The best time for smallmouth fishing is late June through October. The flies you select change with the season, but basically its a match the hatch game, with the hatch consisting of baitfish, hellgrammites, leeches, baby lampreys, crayfish and the like. Huge selections of patterns arent necessary, but you will want to have a good number of each of the patterns you have. One rule of thumb in fishing is that the fly thats working the best is the one you only have one of. And then you lose it! A good mix of wooly buggers in black, brown, white, and olive along with white zonkers covers you for the baitfish imitations. Not that others dont work. They do, so dont hesitate to experiment. Ive had some really nice fish take deceivers, mushmouths, crease flies and other saltwater patterns. But to be successful you really dont need a huge variety of flies, although it does add to the fun. Leach patterns in black and olive work well when the baby lampreys have hatched, as does the standby wooly bugger. Clousers not only cover you in the crayfish department but add a different action as a baitfish fly too. Stonefly nymphs, and hellgrammites fished on a dead drift are very effective. Like trout fishing, detecting strikes often requires a good deal of concentration, but sometimes they just plain slam it as happened to Wayne numerous times that day. More than once, we could see his hellgrammite fly just sitting, well actually hooked to a rock, and a smallmouth would dart from behind a boulder and crush his fly. Very cool, and also very unusual but we were in the middle of an exceptional day of fishing. Add in some Sneaky Petes, Trim Jims, Stimulators, deer hair bugs and Wulf style dries and youre on the top too. White Wulfs are good durable imitation for the late summer white fly hatch. The same tackle you use for trout is suitable for smallmouths, but just to be a little specialized, nine foot six and seven weights are ideal. Realistically, anything from a five to eight weight will do the job. My personal choice is a fast action nine foot six weight. The stiffer rod is a big help in driving the hook home. Lines, leaders and tippets can be as assorted and as complicated as you want to make it. A floating line with a seven to nine foot leader down to 3X is a good start and one that would see the most use. Sink tips and full sinking lines have their place in the deeper pools and runs. Here, three or four feet of straight mono or fluorocarbon in the eight-pound test range works fine. The time of day mostly affects the type of water you choose to fish and what techniques to use. In the early morning and late evening the fish often move into some pretty shallow areas where they hunt or wait for the currents feed them. In slower pools this can mean weed beds, rock rubble or submerged logs and the like. Underwater humps are another area not to be over looked. Many times youll find bass herding bait against the bank or wedging them against some structure. This mostly happens really early or really late and the fish are normally good ones. During the middle of the day, the fish will take cover in the deeper ledge pools and fast running riffles and channels. The pools present a different kind of challenge since here you will need to use sinking lines and painfully slow retrieves to prompt a strike. Expect the take to be subtle and when it comes strike hard. With the rivers banks on both the Pennsylvania and New York side of the river in private ownership walk-in access is limited, but there are several boat launches that allow float access. If you prefer to stay on foot just stay below the high water mark and you can wade wherever you like from these areas also. On the New York side of the river access is from state route 97. This scenic road goes from Port Jervis, NY to Hancock, NY. Starting at its down river point in Port Jervis and traveling north, you will find five well marked public access points between Port Jervis and Narrowsburg, NY. The Pennsylvania side is a little trickier to negotiate since there is no one road that follows the river, but rather a network of roads that go to and from the river at various locations. A good map like a DeLorme gazetteer will simplify things a whole lot. A couple of the Pennsylvania accesses, such as Lackawaxen and Darbytown are also easily found from route 97 on the NY side. A NY or PA fishing license is valid on the river or from either shore. Unless youre a Pennsylvania resident, New York offers the best value for a nonresident angler. We never hooked into any big fish that day, a few fifteen to seventeen inchers won the pool, but we did have a blast with a bunch of smaller guys and over the years Ive learned you never know when that four pound plus fish is going to grab your fly. So when the summer heat has your favorite trout water shut down, or if youd just enjoy the fun and challenge of fishing for another game fish, the Delaware River has some feisty smallmouth bass waiting for you. Make Your Mailing a Home Run, Not a Strike Out!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Joy Gendusa You can use great design and copy to get a better response. When you send a mailing to your customers or prospective customers you are counting on making considerably more money in new business than you spend on the mailing, right? It is obvious that if you were not going to profit from the mailing, you wouldnt send it out. A little less obvious is that it costs almost the same amount of money to send out a very attractive mailing piece with brilliant copy which is more likely to produce a great response rate as it does to send out a boring, poorly designed piece guaranteed only to land rapidly in the trash. Why? The major part of your expenditure is in the mailing list and the postage. The printing costs are about the same for a perfect card as for a mediocre one. All right. So a good design and excellent copy is going to cost a little bit more. But only a little. You send out a postcard mailing to get a response (preferably lots of responses). The front of the card, graphic and headline, is designed to attract the readers interest so that they read what you have to say. In short, to attract his or her attention. The copy on the front and back of the card is designed to get the reader to respond, either by calling you or e-mailing you or visiting you or going to your web site. A response. If your card accomplishes that, its done its duty. How do you get it to do that? Good design. Good copy. Assuming you have sent the cards to people who are likely to be interested in what you have to sell. (Theres no point sending a postcard selling raincoats to people in the Sahara Desert. They are the wrong public). It is more cost effective in the long run to hire a professional to do the design and copy for your promotion instead of spending all the time yourself to learn the software. A little time spent improving the design and copy of your postcards will result in much higher ROI (Return On Investment) for your postcard mailing.
